The reaction proceeded smoothly with 0.5 equivalents of Bi(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub> · 5H<sub>2</sub>O or Fe(NO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>3</sub> · 9H<sub>2</sub>O in acetone at ambient temperature or at reflux.
