A simple, one-pot synthesis of five highly functionalized selenazole derivatives has been achieved in moderate-to-good yields via a three-component condensation of ethyl-2-chloro-3-oxo-butyrate, potassium selenocyanate and various substituted hydrazines or hydrazides in acetone at room temperature.
