A new Co(II) coordination polymer, namely [Co3(btc)2(H2O)2]n (1H3btc = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid), was obtained by the hydrothermal reaction of Co(NO3)2·6H2O and H3btc. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic C2/c space group and features a three-dimensional (3D) spatial framework based on 1D –[Co(II)–(COO)2–Co(II)]n– chain motifs. The catalytic activity of compound 1 as heterogeneous catalyst for degradation of methyl orange (MO) in a Fenton-like process was also investigated.
