A new metal-organic framework, {[Tb(O-IDC)(O-HIDC)] (H2O)}n(1), (O-H3IDC = 2-(pyridine-N-oxide-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid) has been constructed through hydrothermal reaction using 2-(pyridine-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylate(H2IDC) and Tb(NO3)3•6H2O. During the reaction, O-H2IDC resulted from the in situ oxidation reaction of H2IDC. The compound 1 has been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, the Powder Diffraction and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in monoclinic space group P21/c with a = 15.116(3), b = 10.641(2), c = 13.398(3) Å, β = 92.057(4) °, V = 2153.8(8) Å3, Dc = 2.073 g/cm3, Mr = 672.28, F(000) = 1312, Z = 4, R = 0.0373 and wR = 0.0964. Compound 1 displays an infinite 1 D chain structure. Moreover, through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, these 1 D chains extend into a 3 D supramolecular framework. Furthermore, the solid-state luminescent properties have also been investigated. (CCDC 1856803)
