Utilization of converter off-gas based on a chemical-looping combustion process
A chemical-looping combustion process based on a single fixed bed reactor for utilizing steelmaking converter off-gas, which is intermittently discharged and has a low and greatly fluctuating heat value, has been presented. Based on this process, the redox performances of CuO/Al2O3 synthesized by an incipient wetness impregnation method were investigated. The results showed that CuO/Al2O3 exhibited high reactivity, and for a complete CO conversion through the discharging period, the gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of the reduction reaction could be raised up to 8000 h−1 by elevating the reaction temperature to 350 ℃. Furthermore, carbon deposition from CO and formation of CuAl2O4 did not occur because of the low operating temperature. The proposed process based on CuO/Al2O3 showed a good applicability, with which the safe and clean utilization for the converter off-gas could be realized.
